According to Riccardo Braccialini, Chairman, Aimpes, the increase in exports of leather goods between January and May 2017, which reached €3 billion in sales (+15% in value and +4.61% in volume), highlights the state of a ‘currently healthy segment’.

The main destinations for Italian leather goods during the first five months of the year were Germany and France, despite recording a -2.11% and -3.6% fall in demand, respectively. Countries registering the the most significant growth included South Korea (+41.08%), Switzerland (+32%), China (+31.16%), Hong Kong (+16.38%), and Russia (+13.59%).

The association expects the upcoming edition of Mipel, taking place September 17-20 in Milan, to support further growth. Over 300 brands are expected to showcase their Spring/Summer 2018 collections at the event.
