The initial report came from Spanish trade publication La Tribuna de Automoción and was subsequently reported by Reuters.
According to aggregated reports, Geely would acquire the “Body 3” vehicle assembly facilities at the Almussafes site and use the plant to manufacture one of its own models for Europe, with discussions also said to include potential production of a vehicle for Ford. However, Ford described the reports as speculative and declined to comment, while no formal company announcement had been issued by either automaker at the time of reporting.
The alleged deal comes as Ford reshapes its European operations and looks to revive production at Almussafes, which currently manufactures the Kuga and is expected to add a new Bronco model from 2028 as part of a broader seven-model European rollout. Ford Europe President Jim Baumbick has also described Valencia as a key plant for the company’s regional future.
For Geely, the move would align with a broader strategy of expanding manufacturing partnerships outside China and increasing production inside major markets, amid growing trade barriers and tariffs on imported Chinese-built vehicles in Europe.
