The USDA export sales data for the week ending August 17 shows a chequered picture of the market with extraordinary high sales of wet-blue, opposed to underwhelming sales of salted hides. In both cases, the main player was China.

A total of 296,000 raw hides were sold, which is 27% below the preceding 4-week average and 36% below the sales of the previous week. We have to go back to the beginning of April to find a lower number.
