His presentation, “Leather a sustainable product – How to improve it with sustainable chemistry” will examine the intrinsic sustainability of leather, providing an assessment of sustainable chemistry and whether there is a clear definition of it. He will put forward a proposal encompassing several key factors which are fundamental to increasing the sustainability of leather. By giving examples of how certain keywords can be misleading, Thoma will sketch out the case for improvements and outline key avenues of how the sustainability of leather can be enhanced to respond to the increasing demand for sustainability in the automotive leather sector.
The ‘ILM Digital Automotive Leather Supply Chain Forum’ will be a 2.5 – 3 hour online event hosting high-calibre industry speakers, as well as a number of interactive features such as Q&A discussion, live polls and virtual networking opportunities.
About the presenter
Dr Peter Thoma graduated from the University of Bayreuth with a Diploma and a PhD. His dissertation focused on organometallic chemistry and analytics. After postdoctoral studies on spin crossover complexes at his alma mater, he received training in quality management.
Dr Thoma started his career in the chemical industry in ester synthesis and auxiliaries for man-made fibres. In 2014, he joined the Fibre Auxiliaries Division of Zschimmer & Schwarz in Lahnstein. After several years, he then moved to the company’s Leather Auxiliaries Division in 2017. Here, he has been supporting Zschimmer & Schwarz and its customers in the optimisation of existing and R&D of new products, as well as in regulatory matters.
