The University and partner companies have recently completed a comprehensive delivery of technical information for Leather Technology BSc students. Manufacturing, speciality chemical and dyeing companies within the leather industry, including; Trumpler, Chemtan, Silvateam, Lanxess, Forestal Mimosa, Akzo Nobel, TCIM, Zschimmer and Schwarz, Smit and Zoon, and Stahl (finishing and post tanning), have all given their time and expertise in the provision of technical content.

The content and expertise provided by the companies is invaluable to student employability, and ensures the University blends its excellent teaching with real life industry experience. Students at the University enjoy a full and rounded learning experience, and leave the University with the skills needed in the workplace.

Adrian Leja, a final year student commented that: “The chemical companies provide instant networking, very current information and even job employment opportunities.”

The students made over 35 leather articles during these visits (and workshops) ranging from chromium/chromium-free to vegetable tanned. The latest developments in enzymes, tanning types, biopolymers, and exotic leathers were showcased and 22 weeks out of the University’s 24 week programme were committed to leather practicals.
