“A more eco-friendly approach to leather-making” is a 20-minute episode featuring two articles by Karl Flowers, Consultant Technical Editor, ILM, taken from the 2019 print editions of ILM. The first episode, “Waterless processing”, first published in the September/October 2019 print edition of ILM, looks at three water-saving processes in chromium tanning and the importance of conserving this precious resource, while “Salt must go!”, published in the November/December 2019 print edition, explains the consequences of using salt in the tanning process and how tanners need to ask themselves how they can avoid salt curing, the use of salt in the pickle and how they can reduce the amount of salt in cheap chemicals that are used.
Each episode of ILM’s podcast series is designed to appeal to all parts of the leather supply chain, including tanners, traders, suppliers, academia and research organisations, OEMs, brands and retailers. To download or listen to the free-of-charge podcasts, please click here.
