According to a PETA investigation, animal welfare issues were found in farms in Thailand that supply snakeskins to Kering-owned tannery Caravel.

In response, Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault said that the company was “ready to collaborate with [PETA] to put an end to this type of practice, even if we continue to use exotic skins”.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said: “There’s nothing luxurious about hacking up terrified and struggling pythons just for a few bags and belts. PETA is calling on Kering to get out of the disgusting reptile-skin business and switch to the cruelty-free vegan materials that compassionate consumers demand.”
