Song succeeds Han-woo Park, who takes on an advisory role, and is to lead the advancement of Kia’s mid- to long-term strategy ‘Plan S’, which aims at transitioning to electric and autonomous vehicles from the traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, and includes a range of 11 new battery-electric vehicles by 2025. Kia is said to be aiming for a global EV market share of 6.6%, excluding China, and to gain up to 25% market share from its hybrid and electrified vehicles.

Before heading the Global Operations division, Song was the President of Kia Motors Europe and Head of Kia Motors Corporation Export Planning Group.
