Under the theme ‘Changing the Narrative’, the leather fair will take place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. “With Nigeria having one of Africa’s largest livestock populations, it is no surprise that the Nigerian Export Promotion Council identified leather and finished leather goods alongside ten other products as having great financial value capable of replacing oil in the Nigerian economy”, reports local media.

Together with the Made in Nigeria initiative, the organisers also seek to promote the country’s leather designers, provide training for artisans, and improve the quality of finished products. Around 50 companies are expected to participate at the event, including emerging and established leather designers, machinery supplier Star Machines, some Kano based tanneries and members of the Aba leather cluster. Planned events include workshops, a panel discussion and masterclasses featuring Nigerian and international speakers.
