The conference was formerly opened by Dr Masami Sugita, President, Japanese Association for Leather Technology (JALT), Patricia Casey, President of IULTCS, Dr Masayoshi Watanabe, Industry Sectorial Director, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Kozo Tokunaga, Chairman of the Tanners’ Council of Japan.
The conference takes place, November 23-26 and features delegates from 20 countries with the delegation from China making up around 50% of the total numbers.
The opening keynote presentations were given by Prof. Dr Tony Covington, Emeritus Professor University of Northampton – ‘Sustaining the global leather industry’ and Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, General Secretary, Cotance – ‘Leather: Genuine, good and beautiful – Europe’s quest for sustainability’ which were followed by three shorter presentations along the theme of cleaner technology.
The conference takes place at the Okayama Convention Center and is hosted by the Japanese Association of Leather Technology.
