One visitor told ILM that the trend selection had grown in recent years and now features high-end leather makers supplying the garment, footwear and leather goods fashion and luxury leathers. The show took place across two floors of the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhatten and included a preview of the colours and trends for the Spring/Summer 2015 season.

“We represent two tanners here in the US, Inpelsa from Spain and Martucci Teresa from Solofra in Italy”, explained Anne Sampson of Tannery Direct based in New York. “Our tanners produce high-end small skin nappa, suede, nubuck and doubleface leathers for the garment and leather goods makers here in the US. We don’t sell the large volumes that we did in the past but there is a good demand high-quality leathers from European tanners”, she said.

As well as tanners, exhibitors also displayed synthetics, components and accessories although most exhibitors were tanners. Visitors were by pre-registered invitation and although the volume was low the quality was targeted at fashion orientated buyers.

“It is good for New York to have this kind of event. I can meet customers in one location over two days rather than travel around the country to visit them”, explained Christy Plott Redd, Vice President Sales and Marketing, American Tanning and Leather Co (Amtan) based in Georgia. Amtan produce exotic leathers for high-end fashion brands and designers. “It is difficult to attend so many events with the shows in Paris and Bologna coming up but we think its important to have something in the USA”, she added.

Lineapelle Trend Selection New York takes place twice a year and forms part of a series of Lineapelle Trend Selection events taking place around the world including locations such as Guangzhou, Chennai and Kolkata, Istanbul, Guadalajara, Moscow, Warsaw, London, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City. The next edition of Lineapelle Trend Selection New York will take place, September 3-4 highlighting Autumn/Winter 2015-16 season leathers.
