The main change concerns the evolution of low added value as well as fast fashion products. Fast fashion production in footwear has a lower speed than apparel, however, as manufacturers increasingly need to keep up the pace with the latest fashion trends, they are turning mainly to eastern markets such as China as large production volumes are needed to satisfy sales demand.

The discussion also highlighted the strong growth of E-commerce in footwear, especially ‘mobile e-commerce’ which focuses on specific products for small segments that would not be able to support high distribution costs otherwise.

In terms of shoe design for Winter 2016/2017, ankle boots are leading the way with pre-formed and reinforced wedges, combined with inserts in elastic and other materials. Dark shades such as bronze and plum brightened up with iridescent effects, black or deep blue in shiny patent or varnish are dominant across mot collections showcased at the event.
