The public consultation was not included in the first draft of the Leather Production Standard, thus requires additional commentary even if feedback was previously submitted.
Labour & Social Responsibility has been developed by LWG alongside experts from brands, tanneries and NGOs to establish rules for social and labour responsibility, designed to apply to any sized organisation. However, the organisation’s size will be considered when the LWG assess how well they are following these rules.
In P7, social responsibility was a non-scoring section, but it is critical in the Leather Production Standard and will contribute to medal ratings.
Labour & Social Responsibility feedback can be submitted on the LWG Standards Development page until December 28, 2025. The draft has a link to its feedback form on the last page, where comments on each individual clause can be made and general comments can be added.
Other public consultations
There are already public consultations open for:
- Section 15 of the Leather Production Standard – covering due diligence for responsible sourcing.
- The new Chain of Custody Standard.
