However, the Australian government is asserting that the country remains free of the disease and Chief Veterinary Officer Mark Schipp reports that officials are working to lift the suspension.

His department is working to complete the investigation of the infected cattle. LSD is a viral disease transmitted by insect bites which poses no threat to humans.

Schipp said: “We understand this decision was based on Indonesia’s advice that they will not accept cattle from four specific export establishments following detection of LSD in exported Australian cattle after they had arrived and spent time in Indonesia.”
