Officially launched in Milan, Italy, on March 28, Confindustria Moda, the new federation of fashion, textiles and accessories, represents over 67,000 Italian enterprises that generate a turnover in excess of €88 billion, employing over 580,000 people. “The Confindustria Moda member companies represent outstanding Italian craftsmanship, leaders in international markets”, says a statement.

Claudio Marenzi, President, SMI (Sistema Moda Italia) was elected as the Federation’s first President, while Cirillo Marcolin, President of FIAMP (the Italian Federation of Fashion and Personal Accessories) and of ANFAO (the Italian Association of Optical Goods Manufacturers) is the Federation’s new Vice-President. The presidency is to alternate between SMI and FIAMP with two-year terms. Aiming to bring together all the associations, trade fair events and the offices of the newly-formed Federation under one roof, Confindustria Moda has purchased a new site in Milan and the official inauguration is expected to take place in the beginning of 2018.

“Today marks an historic day for Italian goods. We are supreme craftsmen who invent and create, inspiring consumers. We are also one of the driving industries of Italian and European GDP and take our rightful place in Italy and Europe, continuing with greater impetus to campaign on themes such as distribution, trade union relations and the fight against counterfeiting. Together we represent an industry that is synonymous with taste and creativity. We proudly stand as the ambassadors of Italian-made goods”, said Marenzi.

The membership of UNIC (the Italian Tanning Industry Union) will be formalised in the near future.
