Brazilian leather exports continue to rise

August 2013 registered a positive result with the Brazilian leather exports. US$207 million were exported in the period, representing a growth of 7.5% compared with the same period last year. From January 2013 until August, hides and skins export sales exceeded the registered values related to 2012.

The accumulated result in the first eight months of the year registered a growth of 16.5% compared to the same period of 2012, totalling US$1.595 billion against US$1.370 billion. August exports also recorded an expansion of 4.7% compared to July of this year. Hides and skins (wet-blue/crust) were among the semi-manufactured goods with greatest growth in the month. Finished leather exports in the total exports grew by 1%.

Preliminary data has been supplied by the Secretary of Foreign Trade - Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), with analysis from the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB).
