Muirhead, the Scottish tanner, has been selected again by Singapore Airlines to provide the leather for the carrier’s new business class cabin, coming on stream this month on new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The new cabin products from Singapore Airlines have been heavily marketed through the summer, with a new advert named ‘The Lengths We Go To’ filmed at the Andrew Muirhead & Son factory in Glasgow, illustrating how the airline has come to Scotland to find the finest quality hides for its leather seats.
An initial eight B777-300ERs will feature the new cabin products, which will also be fitted on Airbus A350-900s in the years ahead, with Muirhead leather in Business Class. The specialist low carbon aviation leather product from Muirhead is fitted to some 40 Business Class seats per aircraft, covering the entire seat-front and ottoman throughout the cabin.
Colour-coded to match Singapore Airlines’ updated corporate identity, the Muirhead low carbon leather is custom-dyed at the company’s Glasgow factory. The result is a unique leather product, manufactured in conjunction with the interior designers to deliver a unique, high performance, technical and luxurious low carbon leather, exclusively for Singapore Airlines.
Muirhead Sales Director, Archie Browning, said: “We are very proud to continue our long-standing relationship with Singapore Airlines with this new supply agreement for its new business class product. The new cabins are designed and constructed with a very exacting attention to detail, and the finished product will delight the most discerning of passengers.”
In the manufacture of its unique brand of low carbon leather, Muirhead sources local hides within a 300-kilometre radius of its Glasgow headquarters, each with a carbon footprint of 6kg CO2, representing a reduction of 46% since 2004.
