As part of the newly setup Global Industry Management – Automotive Leather team based in Germany, 25 experts from BASF Leather Chemicals, across the regions, came together for a 3-day workshop.
The workshop, which took place from June 10-12 in Germany, outlined the path forward with clear action plans to meet challenges in today’s growing global automotive climate.
“In today’s automotive industry, we see a majority of the finished leather production in Europe and North America, within the vicinity of major car producers,” said Joachim Henkmann, the new head for the Global Industry Management – Automotive Leather. “To remain competitive, we need a setup that mirrors this, allowing us to remain close to both car producers and customers. This is why we have our global centre for automotive leather in Ludwigshafen, Germany, with best-in-class laboratory facilities, technical expertise and close network of partners along the value chain”.
Over the years, BASF has built up a solid reputation and partnership, particularly within the European car industry for technology and innovations. The setup will allow better leverage on BASF’s industry wide network, facilitate closer collaborations and sharing of insights across the different business units. This will result in an even more integrated solution approach and focus on the automotive industry. One such project is the on-going collective effort to meet the increasing VOC (volatile organic compounds) requirements coming from major car producers. The establishment of the competence center reinforces the strong relationship that BASF Leather Chemicals have with their customers and this will better support the increasing requirements and needs that may arise.comments powered by Disqus
