Are tanners prepared for a post-Covid world?

Published:  11 August, 2021

Once again, ILM invited tanners from across the world to contribute to the annual Tanner Business Confidence Survey to provide a comprehensive look at the business climate and trading conditions. The full results are now published on the ILM website, available for all subscribers to gain unique insights into how the industry is tackling the challenges posed by a post-Covid world.

The survey results certainly highlight the precarious position the pandemic restrictions have put the leather industry in, with just 18% of tanners having seen good sales and turnover in the last year and 29% revealing they had poor sales and turnover. Although the industry is poised to move forward as restrictions ease, it is now evident that the fallout is significant.

In the survey, tanners also showed us their approaches in 2021 to Corporate Social Responsibility, and how, if at all, they are adapting to a more digital-focused world. Key insights include areas where tanners will be investing in the coming year, and what they expect to see from customers and the wider industry.

The full results are available to view online via an ILM subscription. The ILM Tanner Business Confidence survey is now in its eighth year and is the only truly global and neutral annual survey of the tanning sector. ILM is most grateful to those tanners who responded, and a copy of the survey results will be sent to those that took part via the September/October print/digital edition of ILM magazine.
