In an upcoming free-to-attend ILM webinar on November 2, two leather chemical industry specialists from Stahl will enlighten viewers on the company’s latest chemical solutions derived from renewable carbon feedstocks.

Stahl Ympact is a series of chemical solutions produced with renewable feedstocks. These products originate from biomass feedstock and carbon-captured CO2 with a content of up to 70% and will assist tanneries to reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on quality or performance.

About the presenters

Frank Brouwer is Research Group Leader for Renewable Chemistry at Stahl. In his position, Brouwer is at the centre of Stahl’s efforts to move away from traditional chemistry and use renewable chemistry to support the transition to a low-carbon future. As a specialised chemist, he is working toward this goal, while also pursuing and developing collaborations with like-minded pioneers in the field of sustainable chemistry.

Before taking up his current role nearly four years ago, Brouwer held the position of Green Technology Chemist at Stahl, with responsibility for scoping, initiating and scaling up sustainable projects as part of the company’s global R&D efforts.

Brouwer has more than 10 years’ experience in the development of flexible polyurethane coatings for the automotive, textile, paper and leather industries. He holds an MSc in Polymer Chemistry and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Groningen.

Dr Harald Bauer is Global Technical Director of Leather Chemicals at Stahl. Bauer leads Stahl’s efforts to help create a more sustainable leather value chain by supporting customers in developing low-impact, high-performance applications. He joined Stahl in 2014 following its acquisition of Clariant’s Leather Services business, originally as Group Director for the company’s wet-end chemicals portfolio.

A 30-year industry veteran, Bauer began his career in leather chemicals in the early 1990s, joining the R&D department of Emulsion Rohm Darmstadt (part of the Hüls group) before being appointed Head of R&D and Application for the company’s leather department. He later served as Technical Managing Director at Bader Leather. Bauer holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

The presentations will be followed by a live Q&A led by ILM Content Director Martin Ricker.
