Global leather chemicals manufacturer Stahl will be presenting at the upcoming ILM Automotive Leather Supply Chain Digital Forum on December 16.
Two leather and automotive industry specialists from Stahl will outline the company’s move towards reducing the environmental impact of leather manufacturing. The Stahl Ympact range, launched in 2021, is based on a new line of leather chemicals from the beamhouse, wet end and finishing made with renewable carbon feedstocks. Not only does this reduce the amount of fossil fuel derived feedstocks used to make the chemicals but also aids tanners and finishers in reducing their overall carbon footprint for their own leathers.
About the presenters
As a Global Market Manager Mobility for Stahl, Alexander Schieke is the bridge between the mobility market – mainly automotive, but also aviation, railway and other transport areas – and Stahl’s departments and business units. His responsibility reaches from direction setting for the strategy to connecting partners along the supply chain.
After years of consulting at the start of his business life, he worked in the automotive industry for Continental Surface Group for 10 years until 2010. As Program Manager for Daimler Chrysler, he managed the sales, marketing, R&D and project management teams.
When Alexander joined Stahl in 2010, he first started as Sales Manager for Performance Coatings, followed in 2013 by a new position as Global Business Manager for Leather Upholstery. After that, he conducted several Global Marketing functions before moving to his current position in 2019.
Dr Harald Bauer is Global Technical Director of Leather Chemicals at Stahl. Bauer leads Stahl’s efforts to help create a more sustainable leather value chain by supporting customers in developing low-impact, high-performance applications. He joined Stahl in 2014 following its acquisition of Clariant’s Leather Services business, originally as Group Director for the company’s wet-end chemicals portfolio.
A 30-year industry veteran, Bauer began his career in leather chemicals in the early 1990s, joining the R&D department of Emulsion Rohm Darmstadt (part of the Hüls group) before being appointed Head of R&D and Application for the company’s leather department. He later served as Technical Managing Director at Bader Leather. Bauer holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Stuttgart in Germany.
Do not miss your chance to watch and hear about one of the most exciting developments in the leather chemicals technologies for manufacturers and OEMs. This technology is the future of sustainable leather manufacturing using responsible leather chemistry from renewable feedstocks through its Stahl Ympact range.
Schieke and Bauer will be joined by presenters from other key automotive stakeholders and leather industry experts to speak on a variety of hot topics affecting the automotive leather sector today. The virtual event will take place over 2.5 hours and will include a virtual coffee break and feature a total of six presentations + live Q&A and panel discussions.
Other topics will include:
Following the presentations, the speakers will be invited to take part in a Q&A and discussion session with ILM Content Director Martin Ricker around the following question: What can be done to persuade car brands that leather is really the sustainable material of the future for next generation interiors? Attendee questions will also be addressed.
