The car manufacturer has announced the appointment of Jim Rowan as Chief Executive and President of Volvo Cars, from March 21, 2022.

Rowan is currently CEO of Ember Technologies and previously served as Group CEO of Dyson Group. He will succeed Håkan Samuelsson, whose contract was slated to end this year and who has held the role of CEO and President at Volvo since October 2012.

According to a statement from the manufacturer, Rowan was chosen for his background in software, digital transformation and innovative consumer products.

Eric Li, Chairperson of the Board of Volvo Cars, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Håkan Samuelsson for his commitment and determination over the past 10 years at Volvo Cars. Håkan has, together with his management team, created a renewed and strong product line, re-established Volvo as a premium brand that is well placed for the future, and enabled the successful listing of Volvo Cars.”

The leather industry will hope that the change in leadership of the company will reverse its proposed policy to phase out the use of leather in all electric vehicle interiors by 2030.
