Thousands of employees have gone on strike at a factory in southern Vietnam belonging to the footwear manufacturer, which supplies brands such as Nike and Adidas.

The workers, numbering around 16,000, are demanding better year-end bonuses and complained that Pou Chen cut the bonuses previously from 1.9-2.2 months’ salary to 1-1.5 months’ salary.

Newspaper Tuổi Trẻ reported that Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Nguyen said: “The workers also need to share the difficulties with the company which had to suspend production for a long time last year due to the pandemic.”
