The Polish Chamber of Shoe and Leather Industry (PIPS) is concerned about the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

PIPS Vice President Mariusz Babral told World Footwear that forecasts are impossible, but exports to the two markets have suddenly stopped and companies have no idea when they might receive payment for goods already delivered.

Last year, Russia purchased 4.57 million pairs of Polish made shoes, creating €85.5 million in revenue. Meanwhile, Ukraine imported 4.33 million pairs of shoes from Poland, worth €81.8 million.

Babral added that “there are several Polish and Belarus companies producing shoes in Ukraine and, under the present circumstances, all activities will be suspended”.
