Paul Andrew is reviving his eponymous footwear brand after leaving Salvatore Ferragamo in 2021.

Andrew said that he tested mushroom biomaterials but found them inadequate for the job. He said: "I tested mushroom leather, but they aren't durable enough for shoes yet. The leather gets pulled across the last and splits. If you put a product out there that isn't durable and disintegrates, you have to toss it, so it becomes not sustainable."

However, Andrew confirmed that he will be working with sustainable tanneries after his work with Ferragamo.

Speaking on his relaunch, he said that the timing is ideal for designer footwear: “People are selling shoes right now like you can't imagine.

"People working from home in front of Zoom all day have even more reason to get dressed up and go to a cocktail party or dinner. The bold colours sold better than the basic styles; everyone wants the fantasy. There is a niche in the market for this kind of product.”

Meanwhile, at Salvatore Ferragamo, Maximilian Davis has been appointed as the brand’s new Creative Director.
