The final conclusions of the EU funded “Leather is my job!” initiative were highlighted at the 5th ICAMS 2014 conference by Cotance and the other European social partners on October 23 in Bucharest.
It was the project’s final event where the material produced was presented. The findings were presented at ICAMS, the International Conference on Advanced Materials and Systems organised by ICPI, the Romanian Leather Technology Institute.
The objective of the Social Dialogue initiative is to awake the appetite of people, in particular young people, thinking about a professional career in the leather industry by providing the testimonies of those already working in the industry and conveying the reasons for their career choice. The European leather industry intends that initiative corrects certain deeply rooted misconceptions about the profession and that good, skilled jobs are offered. Workers from twenty-five tanneries in seven countries across Europe have been involved in the project.
The European Social Partners for the Leather industry, which includes the Confederation of European Tanners Associations - Cotance and the EU trade union – IndustriALL, presented the results of its one-year project and illustrated the lessons learned during its development.
ICAMS, held every second year, gathers the scientific community, business and academia as well as students and public authorities around innovation in the industrial production of materials and systems in the leather sector.
