Cambodian leather product exports rise significantly

Leather footwear and garment exports earned Cambodia over US$6 billion in earnings in 2014 and the number of new factories opening up in the country is growing and the government is introducing policies to attract investors.

Cambodia's earned more than US$6 billion (about RM21 billion) from exports of garment and leather footwear this year, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Minister of Labour and Vocational Training lth Somheng said that in 2014, Cambodia saw a significant increase in the number of factories producing garments and leather shoes compared with the previous few years.

Apart from agriculture and tourism, the garment and leather footwear industries are among the country's stable sectors with key exporting markets including the European Union and the U.S.

To achieve an economic growth of 7% by 2015, the government is introducing policies to call for more foreign investments in garment, leather footwear, rice production, exported farm produce and tourism.
