It is with sadness that it has been announced that Helmut Stricker from Austria passed away on January 9, 2015 aged 71. In a long career in the leather industry he worked for many tanneries and other leather industry companies around the world, particularly in Asia.

Helmut Stricker studied Leather Technology in Vienna, Austria at the Rosenstein Gasse. He later went on to work at Maydiang Changchu, ISA Tan Tec both in China, Teh Chang Taoyuan, Taiwan and China, PrimeAsia Vietnam as Plant Director, Kotoni shoe factory and leather finishing plant and finally at Hong Kong Total Trading (HKTT) a leather chemicals company until at the end of 2012.

Between September 2013 to August 2014 he took his last position as R&D Manager at JBS Asia in Jiangmen, China.

His early career was with Sandoz where he did pioneering work in South America on developing “smart products” from waste stream chemicals and local renewable raw materials which today is considered “green technology”.

His strength was being a very creative “out of the box” leather developer with a can do attitude. Nicknamed “the grand master” he has mentored and trained numerous technicians around the globe over the years.
