Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in a drive seized 526 goat rawhides foiling a smuggling bid at Putkhali border point of Benapole this week.

Acting on secret information that the goat hides were being smuggled to India, a team of Bangladesh Border Guards  conducted a search in the bordering area and seized 526 pieces of raw goatskins, said BGB commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Abdur Rahim. However, border staff could not arrest anyone as the smugglers managed to flee. The market value of the goat hides is estimated to be Tk 0.26 million (US$3,300), he added.

The seized rawhides were deposited to the Benapole customs house. A case was filed according to officials.
