During the Cordwainers National Footwear Student Awards on June 18, the Victoria & Albert museum in London opened its doors to its new exhibition, “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain”.

The exhibition is an exciting and particularly interesting walk through history, from the first Egyptian leather shoes, to the Japanese “geta” and with a romantic take on Cinderella’s famous crystal shoe by Swarovski. There is also a display of modern footwear forms with alluring yet painful fancy shoes. Videos are projected on the V&A’s spherical ceiling showing the hand making of leather shoes, highlighting the superior levels of craftsmanship used to produce a high-quality product.

The new exhibition will continue at the V&A until January 16, 2016.
