Kering’s Gucci unit in the U.S. has won a court case against a China based website merchant selling counterfeit handbags.

The web merchant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd is accused of trademark-infringement lawsuit in facilitating the sale of illegal leather goods. Other luxury brands affected include Kering’s Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta.

Kering has claimed that counterfeit Gucci bags were being sold on the vendor’s website for as little as US$2 compared with US$795 for an authentic version.

A temporary restraining order has been given to Alibaba by the district judge as well as an order that the financial records be turned over to Kering.
