A delegation from the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has for asked urgent government support to fight against a decline in exports.
Export sales of leather garments have decreased 9.74% from July 2014 to June 2015, from US$406 million to US$366 million. Exports dropped 23% in last July alone, compared to the same month in 2014.
In terms of quantity, there has been a 30% decline on a year-on-year basis. From July 2014 to June 2015, exports of leather goods declined by 24%, and 50% in July 2015 alone.
As reported by ILM, the representatives of the association had requested financial incentives during a meeting with the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in August. Read more here.
