The Tannery of the Future online, sustainability self-assessment tool will be presented at the Leather Forum discussion panel taking place at the upcoming edition of ACLE in Shanghai.
The Leather Forum will take place during the afternoon of August 30, 2016 to discuss and debate “The Tannery of the Future” and the organisers are pleased to announce that Egbert Dikkers will join the panel alongside, LeatherNaturally! campaign co-ordinator, Mike Redwood.
Egbert Dikkers, Leader of Innovation & Sustainability at Smit & zoon, will be one of the key panellists during the event. Dikkers has over 20 years’ experience in the leather industry and will present the “Tannery of the future” self-assessment tool (www.tanneryofthefuture.org). It is free of charge, online and easily accessible for tanneries. It acts as an awareness tool, and an easy introduction to sustainable issues that are relevant for leather makers around the world as the industry pushes towards lowering its environmental impact globally.
Created by Egbert Dikkers together with the business network CSR Netherlands, independent leather expert Hans Both, and Antoinette Gast from fair-trade leather importer Tuyu, the tool aims to provide an initial indication of the areas in which tanneries can become more sustainable, and provides quick references to sources for more in-depth information and guidance. For leather buyers, it provides insights in leather related sustainability interests.
