A four-day training program titled; “Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Practices in the Leather Sector” has taken place in the conference hall of the Four Seasons hotel, Dhaka, July 25-28, 2016. It was jointly organised by the EU Switch-Asia project - ECOLEBAN and LETSB (Leather Engineers and Technologists Society of Bangladesh).
Sonjoy Thakur, Technical Expert, ECOLEBAN; Sobur Ahmed, Associate Professor, ILET (Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology), Amal Kanti Deb, Lecturer, ILET; Afzal Hossain, Vice President, LETSB and Firoj Khan Nun, International Affairs Secretary, LETSB all delivered presentations to delegates describing various elements of SCP such as its definitions, methods, capacity building, measurement tools, and best practices over the first two-day session and relating it to the Bangladesh leather sector.
The second two-day programme focused on ISO standards in terms of sustainability for the leather sector and included presentations from Abu SMM Monsurul Hakim, Management Consultant, Mosharrof Hossain Jamil, Social Consultant on EMS and Mr Bashar Expert ISO, for ECOLEBAN.
The training seminars were attended by tannery technical personnel, tannery owners as well as representatives of footwear and finished leather products factories in Bangladesh. After successfully completing the training attendees were presented with certificates by ECOLEBAN and LETSB.
