A lower number of footwear brands are expected to showcase at the upcoming edition of GDS, the international event aimed at the footwear sector taking place February 7-9, 2017 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Displaying the Autumn/Winter collections for the 2017-18 season, the upcoming edition GDS is to showcase around 550 different brands, down from 800 in the corresponding February 2016 edition. The Private Label show, Tag it!, to be held once again parallel to GDS, remains stable with around 100 participating companies.
As usual, GDS will be segmented into three distinctive areas; High Street (classics, lifestyle and young fashion through to performance and comfort), Pop Up (street style from the trendy districts around the world) and Studio (style-forming brands, high-quality collections displaying handcrafted perfection). The GDS Trend Spots, in Hall 4, will illustrate the key trend themes, while the GDS Trend Codes is to present specific outfit ideas. Also during the event, the GDS Trend Talks will deliver a host of information to buyers and discuss future fashion developments.
This will be the last time GDS will be held in Messe Düsseldorf. The next edition is to be organised at Areal Böhler estate, around a ten-minute drive from the current venue. A decline in visitor attendance has led the organisers to consider a different format for the event and the usual July edition showcasing the Summer collections has been moved further down the calendar, to late August/early September.
The move is seen by many in the footwear industry as further evidence that GDS is struggling in the footwear fair business particularly against Italian rivals such as Micam and Expo Riva Shuh.
