Korangi tanners hit with gas supply problems

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) South Zone has reacted following the reduction of gas supply to the Korangi Industrial Area, especially the tannery zone, a PTA statement said on December 31.

Fawad Jawed, Chairman of the PTA (South Zone) and Usman Umer, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Gas and Electricity, have appealed to the government and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to take immediate notice of the grave situation arising due to a reduction of 30% gas supply to industry in the area.

They said that 30% less supply of gas coupled with frequent power outages have threatened the industry.

Jawed said that the drastic reduction in gas supply did not augur well for the local leather industry and it will workers sitting idle and the situation might force the industry to lay-off workers.

He also complained of low gas pressure to businesses and asked the SSGC to resolve the issue of full pressure gas supply.
