Brazilian meatpacker Minerva Foods said it is collaborating with a federal police bribe probe named “Operation Lucas”, which was announced in Brazil’s national press on May 16, 2017.

The meatpacker has not confirmed if it is subject of investigation but said it is collaborating with Brazil’s federal police, which is targeting bribes within Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture. Operation Lucas investigates allegations of a corruption scheme involving Ministry officials between 2010 and 2016. Around seven Brazilian slaughterhouses and meatpackers, of which Minerva is the biggest, are said to have paid monthly bribes to Ministry officials in order to avoid or delay fines.
