Established to promote research and development of leather and footwear products as well as train local workers in the use of modern machinery, the Italy-Vietnam Footwear Technology Centre is located at the Lefaso Centre (Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association), in the southern province of Binh Duong’s Di An district, Vietnam.

An initiative between the Italian Trade Agency, Italy’s National Association of Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather Goods and Tanning Technologies (ASSOMAC), and LEFASO, the centre is said to be equipped with modern machinery imported from Italy as well as from other European countries. One of the aims is to allow small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam’s leather-footwear industries to approach, research and develop new products. Italy’s expertise in tanning and footwear manufacturing technology is to foster technology transfer, and offer consultancy and training of workers in the industry.
