Dutch leather chemicals manufacturer Smit & zoon announced it is joining the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme to support the Programme’s vision of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile, leather and footwear industries to protect consumers, workers and the environment.
By joining ZDHC, Smit & zoon says it commits to working collaboratively on this task and towards the milestones set in the Programme’s Joint Roadmap through active engagement with other brands, retailers and stakeholders. “Just like the ZDHC Programme, we feel transparency and collaboration are key principles to lead the industry in environmental responsibility and to establish and implement supply chain improvements. I am confident that our contribution to ZDHC will support us in reaching our joined goals”, said Hans van Haarst, CEO, Smit & zoon.
Up to now, the ZDHC Programme included a collaboration of 22 signatory brands, 24 value chain affiliates, and 10 associates who work collaboratively to support the implementation of safer chemical management practices in the textile and footwear value chains. It covers four key areas; Manufacturing Restricted Substance Lists (MRSL), wastewater guidelines, audit Protocol and research. Data disclosure and training are cross-cutting areas that work across the four main work streams.
