The U.S. headquartered automotive manufacturer says it will halt production at its plant in Almussafes, eastern Spain, for nine days.
Ford says the temporary closure forecast in November is due to lower demand for models made at the site. The engine production is also to be halted for 13 days. Part of the Ford’s engine production in Spain is exported to Canada for assembly of the Edge model. The decision follows a three-day halt in October.
Ford’s plant at Almussafes employs around 7,500 workers and produces around 1,840 cars daily. Reportedly, shares of Ford were trading -1.07% lower earlier in the week to US$8.32.
The carmaker is also said to be struggling to sustain its operations in South America. Aggravated by the economic crisis and consumer preference for SUVs, Ford is to interrupt production of the Focus model in Argentina, both the hatch and sedan versions, in May 2019.
