William Ruto, Kenya’s Deputy President, welcomed the decision of the Italian tanning Group, Rino Mastrotto and said the Kenyan government would provide the necessary assistance to the establishment of a processing plant in the country.

Rino Mastrotto Group unveiled its plans to establish a tannery in Kenya during a meeting held at its headquarters in Arzignano, Veneto on November 5. Still in the early stages of negotiation, the new tannery would generate hundreds of jobs for local people and boost the revenue of local farmers. Reportedly, the tanning Group has been seeking for a country with political stability to run an African operation.

“Kenya would be your gateway to Africa. We have a huge population of livestock in Kenya and other African countries. We are consolidating Africa, making it a market of more than one billion people. Now, this is an opportunity for you to put your business in Africa,” said Ruto. “Work skill is Kenya’s biggest asset. We would also want to set up a special technical training institute whose focus would be on footwear industry,” he added.
