The Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale (Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium) will be exhibiting at the upcoming edition of Lineapelle London, to be held on July 9 at the Ham Yard Hotel in the centre of London.

The Consortium will be giving a free-to-attend seminar titled “Inherent Vice & the Virtuous Cluster: the case of Tuscan Veg Tan Leather”, which will discuss how leather, a by-product destined for landfill, is transformed into a strong, durable and ultimately biodegradable material of value, through a process that generates organic fertilizers and returns purified water to the agricultural patrimony of the territory. Also, Diane Ellen Becker, Creative Director of the Consortium’s Craft the Leather workshops, will curate a presentation on the role of ‘design as the gatekeeper of values’, during which she will express her point of view, developed over a career as designer, trend forecaster and educator. Becker will consider the challenges to the sustainability of heritage craft in today’s marketplace.
