The premium SUV manufacturer is cutting 500 jobs at its Halewood plant located on Merseyside, North West England.
The job losses are said to concern both Jaguar Land Rover’s permanent employees and agency staff. In 2018, the manufacturer announced it had plans to cut 4,500 jobs worldwide as part of £2.5 billion (US$3.26 million) plan to reverse losses. The Halewood plant has about 4,000 permanent employees and, allegedly, staff were told in a statement that the losses would affect about 10% of its total workforce when it moves from three shifts to two a day. Applications for voluntary redundancy are to open in early February with employees expected to leave on April 10.
