JBS’ beef facility in Colorado, Cargill’s meatpacking plant in Pennsylvania, Smithfield Foods in South Dakota and Tyson’s Columbus Junction plant in Iowa, are among those affected.

Reportedly, about 50 employees at a JBS beef facility in Colorado’s Weld County tested positive for COVID-19, adding to more than 160 cases recorded at a Cargill meat-packaging plant in Pennsylvania, and around 190 cases reported at a Smithfield Foods pork facility. Allegedly, two deaths were reported by union officials concerning JBS’ Greeley plant in Colorado and a Pennsylvania plant. The company has not officially confirmed the information. “As our communities and our country collectively face the coronavirus challenge, JBS USA has had team members impacted by COVID-19. We are offering support to those team members and their families. Out of respect for the families, we are not releasing further information”, said JBS USA.

After several workers were tested positive for the virus, Tyson Fresh Meats, the beef and pork subsidiary of Tyson Foods, said it was resuming limited operations at its pork plant in Columbus Junction on April 21. Read more here.
