The French luxury fashion house, owned by LVMH, has named a new Creative Director.
Effective June 16, Matthew M. Williams replaces British designer Clare Waight Keller, who stepped down in April, as Givenchy’s new Creative Director. A self-taught designer aged 34 from California, Williams comes not from another haute couture house, and has collaborated with musicians such as Lady Gaga and Kanye West before founding the ‘1017 ALYX 9SM’ label in 2015. LVMH said he will take on all creative responsibilities for Givenchy’s Women’s and Men’s collections and is to present his first collection for the French luxury label in October in Paris. Speaking of the appointment, Renaud de Lesquen, CEO and President of Givenchy, said that he is “convinced that, with his unapologetic approach to design and creativity and in great collaboration with the Maison’s exceptional ateliers and teams, Matthew will help Givenchy reach its full potential.”
