The first episode of a two-part webinar series titled ‘Preparing for a post-Covid-19 global leather marketplace’, organised by ILM in partnership with global hide and leather supplier JBS Couros and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), will be broadcast on June 25, 2020 at 2pm UK time (3pm CET). The webinar, titled ‘How globally integrated supply chains can evolve to improve leather businesses in a post-Covid-19 world’ features three high-profile speakers who represent different parts of the wider leather supply chain. Topics of discussion include the impact of the coronavirus crisis on supply chains and how they are likely to evolve post pandemic and how internationally operating businesses can respond to these changes. The webinar will be divided into two elements, a presentation by Kim Sena, Sustainability Manager at JBS Couros on JBS’ Kind Leather concept as an example of a more sustainable approach which aims to minimise the environmental impact of leather production, followed by a panel discussion which tackles the biggest challenges businesses are facing post Covid-19, the importance of sustainability and CSR and effective risk-management strategies.
Kim Sena, Sustainability Manager at Brazil headquartered global hide and leather supplier JBS Couros. Sena’s remit includes working on green solutions to the leather business, from process optimisation and assessment to the minimisation of the consumption of natural resources. He was also among those responsible for the design and creation of Kind Leather and the traceability interface JBS 360.
Mauricio Bauer, Senior Corporate Engagement Specialist at the National Wildlife Federation. Bauer has built his career in the private sector in production and trading of agricultural commodities in Brazil, Australia and in the United States. He supports NWF’s corporate engagement efforts, focused on eliminating the loss and degradation of tropical and sub-tropical forest ecosystems in Latin America that result from the production of key agricultural commodities; primarily beef, leather and soy. He is also responsible for supporting the development and execution of NWF’s corporate engagement activities with companies in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, coordinating efforts with coalition partners.
Andy Pleatman, who is in charge of vision and direction for South China based tannery Asiatan/TecTuff, a manufacturer of leather for global footwear brands. He has a vast track record in the leather industry, having worked in the United States, Canada and for the last 32 years in China and having sold leather, tanned leather, developed new technologies and managed leather businesses, always with a focus on minimising the environmental impact.
