ILM webinar: Indian and UK perspective on a post-Covid-19 leather marketplace

Two industry experts from India and the UK will give overviews of their respective markets in the second instalment of the two-part webinar series titled ‘Preparing for a post-Covid-19 global leather marketplace’, organised by ILM in partnership with Brazilian hide and leather supplier JBS Couros and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), which will be broadcast July 29, 2020 at 2pm UK time (3pm CET). The webinar ‘How can leather businesses transform themselves, repositioning the industry to minimise risks in the new market reality’ is a panel discussion featuring four high-profile speakers representing different industry associations and insights from across the world. The final line-up of panellists includes Aqeel Ahmed Panaruna, Chairman of the India Council for Leather Exports (CLE) who will give an update on the status quo of the Indian leather sector since the coronavirus outbreak and his assessment of the impact on the industry going forward, as well as Robert Perkins, Chairman of the British Footwear Association, who will provide insights into the footwear trade in the UK and what global leather supply chains will look like post-pandemic.

About the panellists:

Aqeel Ahmed

Aqeel Ahmed Panaruna is the Chairman of the India Council for Leather Exports (CLE) whose goal is to develop and strengthen the leather industry, both in terms of industrial development, as well as export growth. He is also the Chairman of the Leather Sector Skill Council and Director of the National Skill Development Corporation and holds senior positions in several other industry associations in India. In addition, he is also Chairman and Managing Director of the Florence Shoe Company, which has been a leading manufacturer of finished leather and leather shoes for more than three decades, servicing international markets such as the U.S. and Europe.

Robert Perkins

Robert Perkins is the Chairman of the British Footwear Association which promotes, represents and supports the British Footwear Industry on international trade, profile, training and development with over 140 members, from footwear manufacturers to some of the biggest brands and designers. He is also a strategic advisor to the industry and former CEO with 39 years of experience in premium branded footwear and apparel in the comfort and performance segments with companies such as Clarks, Pentland, Hotter, Pittards and more. He is a global footwear expert with significant leather, materials, product creation, production and market knowledge.
