Scheduled to open in 2022, the production site will be Hermès’ twentieth leather goods workshop in France.

Located in Normandy, the ‘Maroquinerie de Louviers’ will be the second site of Hermès’ Leather Goods and Saddlery division in the region, following the inauguration of a leather goods workshop in Val-de-Reuil in 2017. The luxury fashion label said the close proximity of the two Normandy manufactures promotes the sharing of specialist know-how; the site will also house a saddlery and bridle-making workshop that will complement the existing equestrian activity in Paris. Since 2010, Hermès has opened nine leather goods workshops and recruited more than 2,500 artisans, bringing the number of saddler-leatherworkers to more than 3,800.

The opening of the Maroquinerie de Guyenne, located in Gironde, south-west France, was due this summer but has been postponed to 2021, along with the new Maroquinerie de Montereau in Seine-et-Marne. A new production site is also scheduled to open in the Ardennes region in 2023. All Hermès’ leather goods and saddlery production sites are located in France. The label has been carrying out a vast recruitment and training plan since 2018, in close collaboration with governmental employment agencies.
