Rise in Pakistan leather goods and glove exports

Pakistan’s overall export of leather goods has posted an increase of 11% to $621.5 million for the fiscal year 2013-14, official statistics say. During the last fiscal year 2013-14, the country’s export of leather goods went up by $60.2 million from $561.3 million in the corresponding fiscal year 2012-13, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). 

In June 2014, the export of leather goods, however, showed a fall of $1.07 million (2%) to $51.0 million as compared to the goods export of $52.1 million in June 2013, the statistics suggest.

Export of leather garments stood at $405.7 million in the last fiscal year 2013-14 up by $27.7 million (7.3%) from $378.0 million in the corresponding fiscal year 2012-13, the PBS says.

In term of volume: Export of leather garments grew by 322,000 dozen (34.1%) to 1.2 million dozen in the last fiscal year 2013-14 from 944,000 dozen in corresponding fiscal year 2012-13, according to the figures. Leather garments export in June 2014 fell by $0.56 million (2%) to $33.9 million as compared to the garments export of $34.4 million in June 2014.

Export volume of leather garments also declined by 16,000 dozen (2%) to 79,000 dozen in June 2014 from 95,000 dozen in June 2013, the PBS shows. Export of leather gloves surged by $32.1 million (19%) to $200.8 million during the last fiscal year 2013-14 from $168.8 million in the corresponding fiscal year 2012-13, according to the official statistics.

Gloving leather

Exports of leather gloves went up by 1.8 million dozen (31%) to 7.4 million dozen in the last fiscal year 2013-14 from 5.6 million in the corresponding fiscal year 2012-13, the figures say.

In June 2014, the export of leather gloves increased by $0.57 million (4%) to $16.2 million from $15.6 million in June 2013. In term of volume, export of leather gloves dipped by 218,000 dozen (34.1%) in June 2014 to 422,000 dozen from 640,000 dozens in June 2013, the PBS states.

The export of other leather goods during the last fiscal year 2013-14 went up by $0.47 million (3.2%) to $15.0 million from $14.5 million in the corresponding fiscal year. In June 2014, the export of other leather goods fell by $1.1 million (54%) to $0.9 million in June 2014 from $2.0 million in June 2013.
