Stephan Winkelmann returns to Automobili Lamborghini as the new President and CEO, effective December 1, 2020.
Stephan Winkelmann succeeds Stefano Domenicali, who will take over as CEO of Formula 1 from 2021. According to Lamborghini, during his time as President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini from 2005 to 2016, Winkelmann transformed the company into a global leader among super sports car manufacturers. “Under his leadership, iconic and cutting-edge models were introduced, starting from the derivatives of the Gallardo and ranging through introductions of the V10 Huracán and V12 Aventador, as well as limited editions and one-offs, setting numerous new sales records”, said the manufacturer. The Super SUV Urus was announced in 2015, thus marking the beginning of a new era for the company.
Since joining Automobili Lamborghini in 2016, Stefano Domenicali is said to have continued the process of transformation with the introduction of the Super SUV Urus in 2018 and a significant growth of the brand on the world stage. Over the last four years, the production site in Sant’Agata Bolognese has doubled, more than 700 employees have been hired, and a total of 8,205 units were delivered to customers, marking a doubling of volumes in comparison to the period before introduction of the Urus. Lamborghini said that sales records were set in all three principal market areas of the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific, with a turnover of €1.81 billion in 2019.
